The Middle House Shanghai
Interiors | Hospitality
Dark timber, green surfaces and a sculptural staircase give The Middle House a distinctive silhouette. Reflective materials, shadow and objects shape the public spaces, while pale textiles, restrained furniture and city views introduce a quieter mood in the guest rooms.

The staircase becomes a central visual element through its continuous, flowing surfaces. Dark balustrades, a textured backdrop and light moving through the double-height space emphasise its sculptural volume. Circulation takes on the character of a space to pause and observe.
Public interiors continue the contrast between dark timber and green surfaces. A luminous chandelier, glossy walls and metallic details build layers of reflection and shadow. In the restaurant, upholstered chairs, timber floors and slender lighting frames translate that expression into a warmer, more intimate dining scale.
The guest rooms and living areas use simpler compositions. White bedding, pale upholstery and blue-green rugs soften darker furniture, with the city beyond the windows becoming part of the setting. Timber tables, low occasional furniture and patterned screens maintain tactile detail while giving the private spaces a calmer rhythm.
